Hello! I'm Lisa. I’m the recipe developer, cook, photographer, and author behind Hangry Miss. As someone who is genuinely often hungry and angry, I like to blame my Sicilian parents for these traits. I am guilty of remembering meals over other details. When scrolling through Insta photos, I find myself zooming into people's plates, not faces. Anticipating my next meal is a constant and I have a knack for turning every conversation toward food. If that’s not you too, I’m not sure we can be friends.
I am married with two kids. Born and bred in the UK, I have been living in Melbourne, Australia for 16 years. I now don't know whether to call it an eggplant or an aubergine, yo-gurt or yog-urt. When I'm not obsessing about food or shouting at my boys, I can be found doing my regular job as a clinical specialist.
What inspires me?
I pride myself on having or finding the perfect recipe for any particular event. Macarons for a champagne tasting with the girls, spanakopita for a picnic, the perfect poached egg on toast for a quick solo fix, and Beef Wellington for a fancy dinner party. I literally have a cooking bucket-list in my phone; just waiting for the right occasion to be brought to life. I love how catch-ups can always involve food. Please let me bring a plate.
You can take the girl out of the UK, but not the UK out of the girl! I love a wet weekend. And winter food. Excuse to cook, excuse to eat.
What kind of food will you find on Hangry Miss?
You'll find recipes for the things I love to eat. I'm not nice enough to waste my time cooking stuff I don't love. I like comfort food (isn't that the point?), baking and entertaining. I love my 'weekend' food, a little more indulgent with more time to cook and enjoy eating with friends and family. Weeknight quickies are covered too; because, let's be honest, we all need 30-minute pantry meals after a long day of adulting. I'd like to think this website could be your one-stop shop if you enjoy eating the same kinds of food as me and my family.
I'm well versed on catering for those with food intolerances/preferences. I mainly stick to a low FODMAP diet, my husband is allergic to (all) nuts. My mum is coeliac (gluten-intolerant), my sister is vegetarian. You can imagine how much fun it is when we all go out for dinner together! What I mean to say is, there will be recipes to suit non-mainstream diets. I'm here to suggest suitable substitutions when it makes sense and provide advice on your dietary questions based on my experience.
You will find recipes that I have tried-and-tested many times. I only publish recipes when I'm sure even a cooking beginner could understand and follow the instructions with the provided recipe card.
I promise to:
- List ingredients in a logical order.
- Give you a 'head's-up' of tricky or lengthy steps in a recipe. I hate recipe 'surprises' just like anyone.
- Be honest about mistakes I've made so that you can learn from them too.
- Not say a recipe is 'easy' or 'quick' when it patently isn't.
- Be realistic about the time recipes take. Of course the time taken to prep ingredients should be included. And we don't all have Gordon Ramsay's knife skills.
- Never make a recipe 'healthy' for the sake of it. If it happens to be healthy, it's because it happens to taste good too.
- Provide a balance of healthy and indulgent recipes; after all, 'variety is the spice of life'.
- Have tried and tested every recipe multiple times.
- Only post recipes I would eat myself. Many times over.
- Never 'hide' veggies
